HISTORY
The Arellano Debate Society has been around for several years; however, not much attention was given to the organization because of the demands of being a law student. There were very few students interested to juggle their time between their studies and the preparation for competitions. In fact, there were instances when students will participate in competitions without any preparation.
In 2001, Dean Mariano Magsalin, Jr. saw the need to revive the organization as part of the administration’s efforts of improving the image of the school and bring it at par with the big and established universities in the Philippines and of course, the World.
Furthermore, the reorganization of the debate society is seen as one of the most important steps in improving our chances in the debating arenas, here and abroad. As a result of the reorganization, the Arellano Law Forensic Guild was established in school year 2001-2002.
As part of the establishment of the debate society, the officers decided to adopt the “Le Penseur” or the “Thinker” as the logo for the organization. The “thinker” was created by French sculptor Auguste Rodin in 1897 and was greatly influenced by Dante’s Divine Comedy. The Guild used the Thinker since it is said to be the - personification of the brute power of the human brain, the most powerful tool in every debate.
Our Vision
A debate society composed of members who are the best in this craft, eloquent speakers with highly logical thinking and confident of themselves as they are seen to be one of the best, if not the best in the world of debate.
Our Mission
To provide the avenues for the development of our debaters and students alike in the field of public speaking and debate and make them world class debaters. Furthermore, to work and contribute to the endeavors of enhancing the image of the school and bring back the glorious days of debating in the Arellano University School of Law & Government. Debate competitions are, after all, perfect channels to showcase the excellence of the Law University.
